On December 27, 2023 Pacific Biodiesel’s refinery on Hawai‘i Island set a new record! For the first time, Pacific Biodiesel has reached 6 MILLION GALLONS of biodiesel produced in a year, far exceeding the refinery’s annual nameplate production capacity of 5.5 million gallons.

This new production record has been reached in a milestone year for the company – 2023 marks a decade since the Hawaii Island refinery first began producing distilled biodiesel. In the past 10 years, in total the refinery has produced 50 MILLION GALLONS of biodiesel for Hawaii. That’s the energy equivalent of nearly 725,000 Megawatt hours (or 725 Gigawatt hours!) of clean electricity!

“Reaching this milestone really took a village,” said Pacific Biodiesel Operations Director Jenna Long. “Mahalo to every one of our employees statewide that worked hard all year to get us to this point. And we sincerely appreciate all of our local restaurants and biodiesel customers that are important pieces of the clean energy picture.”

Founded on Maui in 1995, Pacific Biodiesel has been the only commercial producer of biodiesel for nearly 30 YEARS – manufacturing this 100% renewable fuel that’s sold entirely in our island state.
