FEATURED CUSTOMER – Maui Brewing Company

Maui Brewing Company’s award-winning grid-independent production facility and restaurant in Kihei, Maui

Pacific Biodiesel Recognizes Customer Maui Brewing Company on National Biodiesel Day

March 18, 2026 – Today is both National Biodiesel Day AND Global Recycling Day. So we are giving a special MAHALO shoutout to Maui Brewing Company – the FIRST food and beverage producer in Hawaiʻi to utilize our local biodiesel to help power their manufacturing operations AND recycle with us the used cooking oil from their restaurants statewide.

Celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, Maui Brewing Company been recycling their used cooking oil (UCO) with Pacific Biodiesel since the days of their first restaurant in Kahana, Maui. Today, we recycle UCO from all four of their restaurant locations, in Kihei and Kaʻanapali on Maui and in Waikiki and Kailua on Oʻahu. And since 2018, the company has fueled their generators with our 100% biodiesel to help power their award-winning grid-independent production facility and restaurant in Kihei.

How much positive environmental impact does this one customer make each year?

We estimate that in the past 12 months alone:

  • The total gallons of UCO we recycled from Maui Brewing restaurants allowed us to produce nearly 18,000 gallons of biodiesel!
    • When these gallons of 100% renewable fuel were later used in diesel engines around the state – from electricity production to powering boats, cars and trucks – it helped prevent nearly 377,349 LBS – 171 metric tons – of carbon dioxide (CO2) from entering the atmosphere and polluting the environment. That’s the equivalent to eliminating one mass transit bus burning harmful petroleum diesel fuel for an entire year.
  • Also over the last 12 months, Maui Brewing used nearly 17,000 gallons of biodiesel to power their generators.

For every one gallon of UCO recycled by Pacific Biodiesel, we are able to produce nearly one gallon of premium distilled biodiesel at our refinery on Hawai’i Island. That means the cumulative gallons of UCO recycled from Maui Brewing Company restaurants over the past 12 months enabled us to produce nearly the same amount of biodiesel utilized in the company’s generators last year. Talk about full circle sustainability!

Mahalo, Maui Brewing Company! We are grateful to you and all our customers who help contribute to a cleaner, greener, healthier Hawaiʻi.
