When fossil fuel is burned, carbon dioxide and other harmful greenhouse gas emissions accumulate in the atmosphere, where they trap heat and contribute to climate change.

Agriculture crops and other plants use the sun’s energy for photosynthesis to grow and produce seeds.

Plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and produce oxygen; they sequester that carbon in the soil where it’s beneficial. We are regeneratively farming sunflowers and other oilseed crops – their seeds, filled with oil, act as energy storage!

In our crushing mill, an expeller press mechanically crushes the harvested sunflower seeds into sunflower oil. The residual meal is used as a high-protein ingredient for livestock feed.

Our mill currently produces food-grade sunflower oil and macadamia oil that are bottled and sold to Hawaiʻi’s restaurants, food producers and food hubs, helping to support food security in our state.

At our Hawaiʻi Island refinery, distilled biodiesel is produced from used cooking oil (recycled from Hawaiʻi’s restaurants) and virgin oils from local agriculture.

Pure, clean-burning biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine without modification to replace petroleum diesel (a fossil fuel) and immediately reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions by 86%.

Co-products from our zero-waste biodiesel production includes glycerin that’s utilized in wastewater treatment plants and potassium sulfate (salt cake), a fertilizer for local agriculture.

Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine. Our entire farming operation, including tractors and generators that power our pivot irrigation system, runs on 100% biodiesel.
